Filipino journeyman and huge underdog Sonny Boy Jaro (34-10-5, 24 KOs) upset Thai legend Pongsaklek Wongjongkam (83-4-2, 44 KOs), the reigning Ring Magazine/WBC flyweight champion, with a sixth round knockout in Thailand Friday night.
Wongjongkam, who was making his fifth defense of the title that he won on points against then undefeated champion Koki Kameda of Japan in 2010, had no answer against the Filipino challenger's relentless swarming attacks from start to finish.
Sonny Boy Jaro's aggressive style and power-punching finally took its toll on the Thai champion as he finished him off with a barrage of punches in the 6th round of the fast-paced contest to finally claim the elusive world flyweight crown after several tries.
