EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: JULIAN “J ROCK” WILLIAMS

By John McCormick DISCLOSURE: Julian Williams is trained by Boxingtalk contributor Stephen Edwards

JM: First off, I want to congratulate you on your win against Hector Rosario a few weeks ago. How did it feel to compete in the first eight rounder of your young career?

Julian Williams: It was great but to be honest, it wasn’t an easy victory. I know the scores were lopsided but I was fighting a pretty solid dude, who was 7-1, so it felt good to get the win in my first eight rounder.

JM: Being that it was your first eight round fight, did your preparation for the fight during training change at all compared to how you used to prepare for six rounders? Any drastic changes?

Julian Williams: No, I wouldn’t say we made any drastic changes at all. I mean, we have trained hard for every fight in my career so far. We did some interesting things in training so I was prepared and I am glad we got the win. But to be honest we treat every fighter like he is Godzilla, even if he's a turkey sandwich.

Goossen bringing country-club feel back to Valley

Dan Goossen promoted boxing at Reseda Country Club for more than a decade beginning in 1984. The cards were filled with future champions such as Michael Nunn and San Fernando Valley favorites Gabriel and Rafael Ruelas.

Goossen, as president of Goossen Tutor Promotions in Sherman Oaks, is going back to the future after announcing he will stage similar cards to those held at Reseda at Sportsmen's Lodge in Studio City.

Every other month Goossen will play host to an event featuring possible future champions. In the case of his debut card June 23, former world champion Rico Ramos (20-1, 11 KOs) of Los Angeles will take on Efrain Esquivias (16-0, 9 KOs) of Gardena in the super bantamweight main event.

It's the beginning of what Goossen hopes will be as well-received as those cards of yesteryear.

"I want to make this thing very, very successful as we did with the country club years ago," Goossen said with similar ambiance.

No Easy Way Out: Carl Froch demolishes Lucian Bute in 5

IBF super middleweight champion Lucian 'Le Tombeur' Bute came to Nottingham to prove something, and he did. Unfortunately, it was not the result that he wanted to be, as Carl "The Cobra' Froch laid waste to whatever aspirations Bute had as he demolished him in stunning fashion en route to a 5th round knockout in the 12-round championship fight.

Carl Froch's lethal hands proved to be the difference as he attacked the champion right from the opening bell. The bombs were just too much for Lucian Bute to evade as the erstwhile champion absorbed salvo after salvo of the challenger's hard punches with nary a sign of defense in the loss. It was an old-school beating that Carl Froch administered to Lucian Bute, to say the least.

No Easy Way Out: Lucian Bute throws himself into the snake pit with Carl Froch

Since turning professional in 2003, Lucian 'Le Tombeur' Bute, the Romanian-Canadian IBF super middleweight champion fighting out of Montreal, Quebec, has compiled an impressive record on paper of 30 wins in 30 profesional fights, 24 of which coming inside the distance.

Since becoming a champion in 2007, he has defended his belt 9 times, including a 2011 unanimous decision win over Glen 'The Road Warrior' Johnson, the only marquee name on his resume.

Lucian Bute packs a wallop in both fists and surely knows his way inside the ring. His fights are always action-packed and not wanting in drama: his 11th round TKO victory over Colombian Alejandro Berrio to become the IBF super middleweight titleholder and only the third Romanian professional boxing champion, the way he demolished the clowning Edison "Pantera" Miranda in three rounds, his controversial UD win against Librado Andrade in their first fight and the manner he dismantled him in 4 rounds in the rematch, all these just to give us a glimpse of the man's promise as a prizefighter.

The Blame Game: Manny Pacquiao's "gay-bashing" controversy

The latest brouhaha over comments attributed to Manny Pacquiao about him saying that "All Gay Men Should Be Killed"by some irresponsible 'journalists' shows us a picture of how 'journalism' works nowadays.

In this Internet-driven age, we come across a lot of journalists spouting journalism gobbledygooks to high heavens in order to separate them, the so-called 'real journalists,' from mere "bloggers," who they feel are not at their level. They would pontificate of how they are made of better stuff compared to 'anybody who has an Internet connection' wannabes writing for any search-engine optimizing outlets like Examiner, the Huffington Post and the like.

But the Internet is the great equalizer, and many so-called part-time journalists and bloggers are actually giving these so-called 'professional journalists' a run for their money, much to the networks' (and the giant outlets/publications that employ them) chagrin.
Or are they just ignoring the writings on the wall? Continue reading HERE
